Since I finished my last pattern, I have been doing lots of knitting catch-up. All those projects that have been chillin' out in the bottom of my knitting bag have come back to the top. I have done a lot of knitting and a lot of finishing work, but not a lot of picture taking nor a lot of blogging. Bad me.
One of the wips that I finished was a Liesl for my mom. It sat in my bag without sleeves for quite some time. Then it was finished and sat in my bag waiting for buttons and blocking for a few more weeks. I finally got it properly finished.
Out of the blue, Mom stopped by yesterday. I was so happy that her cardigan was finished. She'll have it before she leaves on her cruise! And it fit. Yay!
I loved knitting this pattern. It's well written , and the techniques were not difficult. Yet it yields a lovely, lacy, feather and fan sweater.
The only thing that I would change about this sweater is my yarn choice. I decided fairly last minute to knit this cardigan for a Mother's Day gift. Of course, my plan was to knit one for my mom and one for my mother-in-law, and I thought I could have them finished for Mother's Day weekend. With no yarn store in my city and no time to order yarn, I made a trip to Hobby Lobby.
I knit both sweaters using I Love This Cotton~ Mom-in law's in taupe, Mom's in aqua. It knits up nice and soft, but it ended up a bit heavier than I had hoped. However, the true reason why I probably should have waited and ordered yarn is that it sheds. Mom wore it with a brown knit shirt, and when she took the cardigan off there were little aqua fuzzies all over it. Bummer. I guess we'll see what happens after the sweater is washed.
Liesl is written with negative ease, but I knew that both moms would prefer a little extra room. They like their cardigans to close all the way down the front rather than draping off toward the hip. So I decided to knit a size larger to give them a bit more ease. My gauge also ended up a bit small~ even on a US 10 1/2 needle~ so I ended up knitting 2 sizes large. I was worried that the size would be way off since neither of them live close enough to have them try it on as I knit. But they both ended up fine. Whew.
Of course, I forgot to take pics of my mother-in-law's Liesl. I am so bad at remembering to take pics of gifts before they leave my house!
Now I need to get the rest of those finished objects out of the bottom of my knitting bag and start blocking!
