Crafting Goals for 2013

With the New Year comes a chance at a new beginning. It feels fresh. I love starting, so I love this fresh chance that the beginning of a new year gives me.

I really don't like making New Year's Resolutions, but I love setting new goals for the year. Goals feel more like things to work toward, rather than giving me the feeling that I must attain it straight away or I have failed. Goals feel more like something to begin walking toward.

I have been reflecting on the past year and dreaming about my goals for this year.

Goals for my writing.

Goals for my blogs.

Goals for the Shop.

Goals for future designs.

Goals for my creating.

I thought it might be hard to set some crafting and creating goals for 2013, but once I started writing I thought of several things that I would like to work toward this year. It really surprised me!

My 2013 Crafting Goals

A New Skill~

I have never worked crochet cables. In fact, I had never heard of them until about 5 years ago. {The perils of being a self-taught child crocheter before the internet} This will be the first goal I work on this year. In fact, I already have a project in my queue and will likely start tonight. {grin}  I'm going to start with the Catherine Textured Diamonds hat by Katherine Oster of Sweet Kiwi Crochet. The winner of my Christmas Giveaway requested a headband worked with crochet cables in a very similar stitch pattern that this hat uses, so the hat will be my practice before I plunge into Danielle's headband. {Yep, that's how I roll. Dive in head first.}

A Project for Me~

Last year I bought a beautiful kit from Knit Picks~ the Sipalu Bag. It's gorgeous! It's a colorwork bag, and there is enough yarn to complete two versions of the bag. It will be perfect for me and Colleen, my 17 year old daughter who is a fabulous knitter. I have only done smatterings of colorwork and only on small projects. This kit will accomplish two goals for me~ improving a skill and something pretty for me!

A New Craft~

It's been far too long since I've learned a new craft. I think it's time to stretch my brain again. I haven't decided yet which skill I will add to my repertoire… maybe tatting. {swoon}

A New Technique~

I have been chomping at the bit to try out some new techniques that I found for joining crochet motifs.  Of course, I found this sweet post on Pinterest! I want to make a new bedspread for my bed this year, and it just may need to be the project to help me play with these techniques!

Clean Out the WIPs~

I have discovered that I have lots of unfinished projects floating around my house in various bags. This year I am determined to finish those babies… or frog them.

Organize Stash~

With three knitters and crocheters {and one wannabe 5 year old} in the house, it doesn't take long for the yarn to explode. This year, we have got to organize better~ or Hubby may go insane. {grin}

I didn't realize that I had so many things I wanted to do in my crafting this year until I purposed to think about it. If you haven't written down some crafting goals for this year, I would encourage you to take a moment to pause to write some down. You just may surprise yourself!
